The Avalon Park miniature railway

The Avalon Park miniature railway is a long-standing and popular attraction in Lower Hutt

Course: The 1.6km track takes passengers through a tunnel, over a level crossing, and alongside the park’s large adventure playground.

History: The miniature railway has been operating at Avalon Park for over 40 years, with historical photos showing it running since at least the late 1970s.

Operating hours: The train runs from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, Sunday, Public Holidays and School Holidays weather permitting.

Cost: Children under 2 are free. All other riders are $3 per ride. Cash or Eftpos is available there is NO payWave so please bring your card.

The train is run and maintained entirely by volunteer members of the Lions Club. In recent years the club has put out calls for new members to help ensure they can continue operating this community favourite.

At the mini golf at the other end of the park is a kiosk with drinks, ice blocks available.
